The Company – Micron has acquired another company named Displaytech along with its product line.

The Technology – The microdisplay technology, coined as FLCOS (ferroelectric/fast liquid crystal on silicon), is an all-digital technology which integrates image processing, display panel, and LED controller in a single chip. Currently at its prototype stage, FLCOS could make it possible to project from a relatively small form factor device with high image quality and vibrant colors.

The Specs – about 1.5 inches long, uses 1.1 watts of power to produce 10 lumens, 24 bit color, 60 frames per second, SVGA quality up to 800×600 resolution

FLCOS can mix colors (red, green, blue) at about 1/10,000 of a second and appears to the human eye as full color. This is the key difference of FLCOS to other display technologies. FLCOS could prove to be useful on a wide range of devices, and according to the CNET article, the microdisplay chip could be embedded in commercially available smartphones such as the iPhone, by the late 2010 or 2011.

The chip is not intended for direct sale to consumers, but with device manufacturers. If these folks are serious on what they do, they should solve the following issues at the least: power consumption, pricing and replacement considerations…

FLCOS is surely one of the most promising pieces of technology at the time of this writing… Who knows? You might be a proponent of another brilliant tech – a micro popcorn or coffee maker perhaps…

Google also made it clear that the Chrome OS is independent of the recent Android project. To pin it down, Android was built for devices ranging from mobile phones to
netbooks, whereas Chrome OS would chase larger ones – from netbooks to full-size desktops supporting x86 and ARM architectures…

Just like Android, this baby would be Linux-based… The Google Blog refers to it as *a new windowing environment on top of Linux*. After having used both Gnome and KDE for Linux, I bet Google would again hook for a minimalist design… It reminds me of how Mac OS was built out of BSD, hehe…

But until now, I am not pretty well convinced that this OS would fit the requirements of a power user or a developer… Ill just keep my eyes peeled for updates though…
After all, the *open source, lightweight* project was intended to be closer to the World Wide Web consumers…

*Do I really need to submit a site to a huge number of search engines? The answer is NO. Submitting to a huge number of engines wont help you get higher rankings… I would recommend that you manually submit to the major search engines only… It is not logical to think that each person within your target market is more likely to use an overly unique engine of his or her choosing…

*How do I submit my site to major search engines? Simply go to a major search engine, then search for site submit or submit url, plus the name of the engine… Youll surely find the submission page on the search results…

*How do I improve my search engine rankings? Though engine algorithms may vary, these are the most common things they are looking for: inbound links (links from other sites referring to your site), relevancy (how your content is relevant to a set of keywords) and of course, the keywords (search keywords must appear in your content,hehe)…

Remember, this post does not even scratch the surface of SEO… If you are really serious in improving your ranking, there are plenty of SEO (search engine optimization) tutorials available on the web for FREE…

And the most important SEO tip: just produce high quality content… As SEO folks always say, Content is King…

Take me, for example… I just needed a piece of screencasting software that would let me record a particular task on a programming tool… Haha, and I dont have disposable income to spend for a piece of software I wont be using often…

Well, if that is the case, Camstudio might be the right solution for me… It is free, since it is an open source project… Actually, Camstudio is a piece of screencasting software which was used by Macromedia in creating their RoboDemo software (now known as Adobe Captivate, as Adobe swallowed Macromedia)… You could think of Camstudio and Captivate as cousins, hehe, since they both grew from same roots – just travelling separate routes (?)…

A quick rundown of Camstudio features is as follows:

*Full screen, Fixed Region and Autopan Screen Recording (follow cursor mode)

*AVI and SWF file support

*Minimize on tray while recording

*Multiple Codec support

*Audio recording options

*Play, Pause or Stop Recording via toolbar or keyboard shortcuts

*Plus a multitude of configuration settings for tuning screen recording sessions

Just a note though, you need to tweak the settings to attain optimal recording performance…

But all else considered, this is one piece of open source software I would personally recommend to my buddies…

The devs are still looking for ways to implement sandboxing mechanisms similar to what they use on the Windows platforms to increase browser security.

The Mac sandboxing API seems to provide no probs to the devs, but they are still playing safe by not having a premature public release for the Macs.

What seems to be more challenging is that various Linux distributions are equipped with different sandboxing APIs – and some do not have their own. The main game here is to establish a standardized sandboxing approach to be implemented on all Linux distros, regardless of what API a certain distro is using.

As I see it, there is a possibility that the Chrome team would have to develop their own sandbox API specifically for the Linux kernel.

After all, the Chrome devs are now pushing the project into a cross-platform beta *while ensuring that each version feels like a native application that blends well for each (of the) respective operating systems*.

There is always a good thing in building credibility with developers first before getting any software into the consumer wildlife.

Being a Firefox user, I just simply hit the ctrl shift del key shortcut to log out of multiple websites in one blast… If you would be doing this, make sure that the following items are selected on the dialog box that appears, then click ok:

*Saved Passwords

*Authenticated Sessions

*Cookies

That way, all account-related information would be wiped off your Firefox box.

There is nothing new about the private browsing feature but it seems that majority of its users are not well aware of the feature, or just merely uninterested and unmindful of it…

Actually, there are two types of computer graphics, raster and vector…

Raster graphics are otherwise known as bitmap… It is best used for photographs… Images are represented by bits and color depth… The most common raster formats are JPEG and GIF… You must use a raster editing software such as Photoshop… Lastly, raster is a lossy type of graphic… It is hard to convert a small raster art into a huge one, you would see a pixelated appearance… But geographical information systems such as google maps use raster overlays… They have come up with a way to solve the pixelated problem: maps are presented in a series of zoom levels… When a user zooms in, instead of seeing the pixels, the images are replaced by other images belonging to the next zoom level… You might not really notice how pixelated a raster is on a computer screen… Why? Computer screens only have a depth of 72-150 dpi (dots per inch)…

Enough of the raster rash… It is still the best type of graphic to depict a real or a realistic image… The very same overlay principle is used by the JPEG format to present realistic images…
Raster is also the only type supported by digicams, among others. (You wont really need to publish personal photos on wide format printers, do you?)

Though there are many sites falling under the tutorial category, it is much better to turn to a site that provides tutorials regarding inter-related software (for example, when doing web dev, you might also need to have graphic software, etc.).

Among all the sites ive visited, Tutorialized.com seems to be my flavor of choice. The tutorials are actually contributions of the site members, which goes with ratings. The tutorials are also well organized by task, so you wont be lost on the site.

One annoyance though, the tutorials are displayed as split frames, half for tutorialized then half for the source. If you are using Firefox, just right click on the frame showing the tutorial, select *this frame* then open it on another tab.

Just have a nice self-study guys… This is one of the best bets for learning web development software, 2d and 3d graphic software, and the like…
